Markell
I have an idea for a jig but I can't find a hook that would give me what I need. What I want to do is add an extension to an already existing hook eye. The original eye would be inside the head. Any ideas on what and how to accomplish this? I am concerned about the strength of the final product.
JIGMAKER
Sounds like you might need to make a mold modification.
Markell
Mold modification isn't an option. I plan on making a mold for this bait. It maybe a lot of trouble to go to but it will drive me crazy untill I atleast explore this. Thanks.
JIGMAKER
Do you have a picture of what you are trying to do?
Markell
Basically I want a Gammy EWG offset shank worm hook with a 90 degree line tie. The ewg is a must and having 90 degree bend is a must. My other option might be to use a 90 degree ewg jig hook with some type of plastic keeper. I really would like to work up a prototype using the worm hook. Thanks.
Joe
Could you use a peice of ss wire with a bend on the hook side, like a buzzbait wire or spinnerbait wire? The hook bend would attach the extension to the hook and at the point the wire exits the bait, turn it into itself at the angle you need and let the tag end of the wire go back into the head of the jig. I use this on some wood baits nd it works fine. Joe

Flats
Here's what I use when I need an eye for a jig and the hook's is molded in the lead. It's a brass wire eye made to hold in lead http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/Details.aspx?itemno=335905
Markell
Flats, That might be the ticket. I will give it a try. Thanks for the help guys.
Unagi
Flats was right on, I've done precisely what you are proposing with great success. However I've found that the figure 8 shaped ss used for hook hangers in plastic body baits a better alternative to the sinker eyes. The brass in my humble opinion was too soft and was easily bent. This method enables you to use conventional worm hooks in almost any mold. This technique also facilitates longer shanks without increasing the gap, ideal for tube jigs. regards, Paul
