Anglinarcher
I actually use gold leaf. It adds little to the weight of the lure, it is easy to apply, and .........
BobP
After trying adhesive "gold" foil that turned brown (guess it was brass), I used adhesive aluminum foil and shot it with a little transparent createx yellow. Worked fine.

At two bucks a leaf, and one leaf per bait, it's kinda expensive, but it follows details so easily, it's amazing.
sonoman
I want to roll my scale pattern into the foil with a tool, I believe it may not be appropriate for that but I will not hesitate to try it without the embossing., thanks
Anglinarcher
I know, it is expensive, but it is amazing. I have been trying other "deco" foils, and have had some limited success. I believe that hot stamp foil has promise, but that is a test and study I have not had time to try yet.
Anglinarcher
This might give you some insight to regular foil. http://www.makelure.com/store/pg/54-How-To-Videos.aspx#prettyPhoto/15/ Looks like CaptainSeabass of our own membership on this site can help you out. See his post and video. I do know that there are other YouTube tutorials on using aluminum foil, but I just don't like the extra weight. I tried several foils myself and if you burnish the edges down properly it works, and you can emboss the scales, but again, weight. Check the above video out for idea then do a search on YouTube. Also did the following YouTube search. Too many to count. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=foiling+fishing+lures Edited July 12, 2017 by Anglinarcher Found TU link to include and YouTube search
Anglinarcher
Links to products I have either tried, other then leafing products, or plan on trying. Feel free to jump into the testing and let us know. http://www.dharmatrading.com/paints/icraft-decofoil.html http://www.debbiejones.com/Store-Foils.html http://store.lisapavelka.com/Clay_Craft_Foils_s/1867.htm http://www.ebay.com/itm/KINGSLEY-HOWARD-HOT-STAMP-STAMPING-MACHINE-SEAMLESS-HOLOGRAPHIC-FOIL-3-ROLLS-/290766938975?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b30f635f I all cases, I use or plan to use a misting of contact adhesive on the lure and then burnish the above foils to the lure. Good luck.
Musky Glenn
The best gold I have found is spraying Createx sunrise transparent over silver foil. When the hair dryer hits it and it starts drying there is a drastic change from yellow to a briliant gold color. Good luck.

I misted the Createx Sunrise Yellow as well over the silver foil on the top. With the bottom bait, I misted Polytranspar Medium Green Bass over Createx Pearl Pineapple over the same silver foil....the top was misted over white stripes and the bottom has the black stripes over the misting. You can see how different colors under, over and the overspray as well can give different looks. Even the amount misted. I don't think you can make any two exactly alike if you tried. I have never yellow like BobP used but if he says it works....it works! There seems to be an endless way to achieve the same or similar results and variations of by layering colors...

SW Lures
I use everything from gold leafing to duct tape that you buy from a "dollar store". Check out holographic tapes. I use these for eyes at times also. You can get imitation copper, siver, gold leafing or whatever from a craft store. Real gold leafing is ok and is a conversation piece but I won't do it again. I had some left over for a wood consignment job. Had to do it at least once. Dale Edited July 29, 2017 by DaleSW Adding comment
