Roba22
This may be the wrong place for this post but I did not see a topic here to cover lead pouring and I was asked to try posting it here because "those guys know everything about pouring" I was told I have been considering buying a lead melting pot and get some molds and start pouring my own lead heads. I use round and football head jigs with weed guards, as well as stand up style shaky heads in round and football with screw locks and thought why not pour my own if I can find the right molds. so my question is where can I find the right info on lead pouring, molds, and how too's? I'm hoping to get some input into what all I would need, What are some tips or tricks to get what i want, and if its worth the time and money to do your own has a small winter hobby. I am not looking to make these to sale. Just for me and maybe a friend or two. I have never seen it done and have no clue what all it will take to get started and then produce about 20-30 heads thank you!
Apdriver
Welcome to TU, Roba22. I would start by reading the pinned topic at the top of wire baits titled safety tips and techniques. Of course, there are some basic supplies you need to start like a lead pot, lead, flux, a mold or two, maybe a couple colors of powder paint, and depending on what pot you choose maybe a ladle. I would get some Frankfort Arsenal mold release too. Save you some heartache down the road. It's a great hobby, so enjoy! Ask lots of questions too. 1
