rynesgto
I am looking for someone to make me 100 June bug 3.5 inch tubes. I don't want a double dipped tube, looking for something similar to a 3.5 BPS tender tube.
Les Young
I would if i had time, but the angling ai 4" double dipper tube is the only tube mold i have. They aren't really double dipped it is just made to look like it. It does make good tubes though.
rynesgto
How do you like the mold? I'm really considering the 3.75 and just shoot them myself. Do the rods comes with the mold? how do you cut them?
Les Young
I made a press made somewhat like the lurecraft press except heavier duty & attached their deluxe plastic cutter to it. I dip each tube in worm oil before I cut them & it does a pretty good job. As far as the mold goes I really like it. It has the option to have 1/2" solid heads if you want & yes the rids(5) come with it. I ordered an extra set too, but haven't used them yet. Just oil rods before you put them in the mold & there will be no problem removing the baits from them. I take an art brush & just apply a thin coat to them & have no problem whatsoever. Here's a pic of the press. Don't know why it posted sideways, but you get the idea anyway. Edited September 18, 2017 by Les Young
SRJ
If you have an air compressor you really don't need the worm oil to remove the tube. I see that Josh is now offering a tube splitter featuring a 'smash devise'. Just ordered the ribbed 5 piece mold today. I now have all his tube molds. rynesgto
what do you guys suggest for plastic? I'm assuming super soft isn't ideal.
Les Young
I tried medium & it was a little soft for me so I mixed 50% medium & 50% hard & it's better. I'm going to try a few with straight hard next, but I just haven't got around to it yet with work, mowing hay & fishing.
SRJ
I use Baitjunky Hard de-gassed for everything. Still playing with temps. Sent Leonard a message asking for recommendations. Haven't heard back yet.
Travis
I have always used hard, salt water, tube plastic or whatever the seller is calling it for tubes. I dip my tubes and usually make them thin walled like git zits.
rynesgto
thanks guys. I'm looking to make a bait similar to the 3.5 Bass Pro Tender Tube.
Travis
Gitzit is essentially what BPS was copying to get the "tender tube". Haven't fished a tender tube in a long time however so may be different from what I used. Dipping is easy to do and goes really quick if you have thought out the process. Cutting the tails is the only slow part but nothing too bad even with rudimentary set up. Once you have a cutting block set up you can press them fairly quickly with consistency.
