fleenor1
Ok, hopefully nobody has asked this question..... What is the best way to regulate the heat of the plastic you are pouring? I have been having a problem with getting my plastic too hot and then when I add my glitter it curls. I can get about 8 sticks out of the plastic before I have to re-heat it in the microwave then the glitter goes down hill from there. I have been melting 1 cup batches so far and that, at least for me has been a great amount to work with. I have been using the small glitter from LC. I guess that is my second question of this post.... Is there a better glitter than the others? What have you "Experts" been using for Glitter and have you been getting the problem of curling too? Thanks for all your help guys! Without you I wouldn't have gtten this far. I am just looking forward to this next weekend. I am finally getting out there to try my stix out. Doing a little Fall Bass fishing. Maybe a few Walleye too! Later, Fleenor1
woodsac
I use glitter from LC and MF. Some colors seem worse then others. For me, purple and silver or holo silver are BAD! Not only do they curl, they loose their color. As long as I don't heat too fast, the silver is ok most of the time. But the purple almost always curls after the 2nd or 3rd time. Even if I'm only reheating for 30 seconds. Sorry I can't offer any better tips.
BigZ
Fleenor, you may want to try a lee pot or old fashioned pouring pots on a heating element to get more pour time out of your plastic. You will be able to control the working time better with either of these methods. One bad part is that the lee pots are tough to pour heavy salt baits through because the nozzle clogs and you have to monitor the temperature closely. I can pour 16 cavities (senko) without a reheat starting with 6 oz of plastic using the microwave method. As far as glitter curling goes, I think it's just bound to happen whenever reheating is involved.I only really get a problem with glitter curling when it is the big stuff, .060 or bigger. I use glitter from SenkoSam, it is great quality, but if you over heat it, it will curl. I guess it takes a lot of trial and error to figure out what's gonna work, but that's what makes this hobby so fun!
basskat
I melt my plastic in the microwave, pour it into a pouring pan and keep it heated on a hot plate.
fleenor1
Thanks for the sugestions! I have been trying smaller pour and it has been working better for me. 4oz batches.... Less reheats and the baits have been looking a lot better with less curl. I have noticed that the different colors of flake and glitter have been reacting a lot differently from each other. Purple is by far the worst to work with so far for me too. But, blue has been great for me! Almost never curls or loses color. Again, thatnks for the help guys! Back to more trial and error. Hopefully less error this time around! But, it has been a blast and I am counting down the hours until I am getting out on the lake Thursday and try these bad boys out. I will definately have asome pictures to post of some fish.... Thanks, Fleenor1
