LimpNoodle
I noticed on Barlow' s site that there is now a Twistech wire former that will handle .051 wire.
Kasilofchrisn
Thanks alot Limpnoodle. Now you got me wanting the new one. And yet I haven't even tried out the regular twistech I just bought. Have a Hagens but wanted to try out the Twistech. Kinda makes me wish I had waited and bought the magnum.
Saugerman
I love the twistech wire former, I've owned mine for a couple of years now. When I bought mine There was a kit that you could buy that you changed out on the former, that would allow you to bend up to 051 stainless wire. It works well. But 051 gauge wire is still pretty hard to deal with.
Kasilofchrisn
I have the adapter so I can do .041 wire with mine. But i'm not aware of an adapter for .051 wire on a standard Twistech. I do have the adapter for my Hagens to do .051 wire on it. Either way I see a new wire former in my future. Before I got the larger Knipe pliers, it was almost impossible to get a decent loop bend in that wire by hand. I use the .051 wire for the pivot shaft on the whopper ploppers I make. The ones I buy from LPO are 12" long, with a loop on one end. After I thread the shaft through the body and tail, and add a cup and a bead for pivots, I move down the wire a bit and form a loop with my large Knipe wire forming pliers, leaving some space between the loop and the last bead. Then I lock the loop in the padded jaws of my vise, grab the tag end with a pair of visegrips, and twist the wire back toward the pivot ball. Once I get it close enough, I cut the end off with a dremel and cutoff wheel. I found, by happy accident, that my poorly shaped loop, facing down, actually helped with keeping the body from rotating. Saugerman
Mark, those are nice looking ploppers, I love to fish those things. Kasilofchrisn I went back and checked my twistech, and I was wrong, I have the adapter that will allow only 041 gauge to be used. I spoke from memory, I would have sworn it was for up to 051 gauge wire. I did not mean to misinform anyone. Anyway I like it very well, it suits my needs.
