Walking Dead
Do not own one but are theses just weighted hard jerk baits? Do knock iff blanks exist? Pretty sure Rapala made a count down minnow that was similar? Thanks.
AZ Fisher
Here is some info on them. Don't know about knockoffs.
BobP
Spy baits have small props front and back which are, with some body rocking, their main finesse action. No side to side motion. Quite different from a Rapala Countdown minnow or jerkbaits that have swimming lips.
mark poulson
If you look at a spybait, you'll see that it has a flat bottom, and the ballast extends up past the mid line of the bait. The flat bottom provides resistance on the fall and swim, and the raised ballast provides instability, and the combination of the two makes the bait rock back and forth on the wall, and on the retrieve. I made some that work, and that's what I learned in the process. 1
Hughesy
I took a 110 knock off and removed the bill, pinned the weights to their most forward position. Then heated the line tie and rear hook figure 8 eyes and removed them. Screwed in some small hook eyes with counter rotating spinners and it worked perfect. The flat belly on the 110 gave it the wobble on the fall, and the additional weight of the screw eyes and spinners gave it the fairly good sinking rate which could be adjusted by size of split rings and hook size.
