tabutler
I painted several baits the other day without a problem with my talon. Yesterday I was going to paint another batch, had all kinds of problems with clogs and bubbling in cup. Cleaned it again and when I put it back together it seems to me the needle sticks out further from the tip before it seats. I never could get it to perform correctly . Am I imagining things or can this happen and if so have I screwed something up. I am using the .3 something tip. I did change out to the .55 tip to put on some base coats and seemed to work ok but I much prefer the finer tip. Any advice would be appreciated. BobP
If your needle is really sticking out farther you may have split the cone or nozzle of the airbrush. It can be hard to see a split on such a small part. Worth using a magnifier to make sure.
Musky Glenn
Sounds like you are using the .3 needle with the .55 tip, or does the Talon us the same tip for both needles. If it does use the same tip, then I would think the .3 needle should stick out farther. Good luck Edited January 28, 2018 by Musky Glenn
gone2long
You may also try rubbing the threads of the cone/tip on a candle or some use chapstick and reassemble you are clearly having an air leak backing up in the cup but as stated it you split the cone/tip it can be difficult to see
tabutler
Thanks for your help guys. Upon closer inspection, my cone was damaged. My eyes were not good enough to see it even with magnification but running my fingernail over it I could feel the split. Already ordered a new one. As usual, I learn everything the hard way. I am new to this and as frustrating as it is, I am loving trying to figure it all out! Thanks again
Chuck Young
You should order the matching needle as well. The taper varies, as does the diameter of the seat.
DoubleT
I've noticed this with one of my talons as well. Wasn't sure what the deal was though.
Chuck Young
I use a Badger 150. There is a PTFE seal between the paint chamber and the air chamber. The needle goes through it. Not sure of the design of your brush. But there probably is a seal like that on every airbrush. A leak in that seal will cause your brush to pulse, then eventually to do nothing but push bubbles into your paint cup (or jar). You probably solved your problem. Just keep it in mind for the future. DoubleT
Great info. Thanks Chuck
Chuck Young
I do all my painting now with a fine tip and nozzle. I just change the regulator pressure (30-35 psi for a base coat, well below 10 psi for detail work). If you don't have a regulator / water trap, get one. It makes a huge difference in your work.
