dchance
I modified my football screw loc mold to fit this hook in the large cavity. I went with a 6/0. the only issue is that this hooks 6/0 size seems more like a 4/0 in other hooks. I was looking for a big heavy shakey head with some ewg to make room for larger magnum trick worms and meatier plastics. anyone have issues with this hook bieng too small and plastic interfering with hooksets? EironBreaker
Hey Derek, I've got some 28 degree, cross-eye EWG Eagle Claw hooks that would likely work for you. They seem to run larger in size and they are pretty heavy. The points aren't turned down like the Mustad EWG hooks so they should work good for your application Shoot me your address at Eisenbacher@sbcglobal.net and I'll send you a few of each size to try out. If you want. Matt

What about the Gamakatsu 684, that is a 6/0 hook. I was also wondering, when you say the Mustad 6/0 is the size of other 4/0 hooks, do you mean length, wire diameter, or both? I'm asking because that special bend is more of a standard or medium wire hook. If you don't need the special bend, there is a 5/0 Mustad 38108 that is a heavy wire and because the shank has a straight section it would more than likely be longer than the special bend. There is also a VMC 7328 in a 5/0 that has the same heavy wire diameter of the Mustad and it probably the same length as well.
dchance
I am looking for an extra wide gap option to fit the mold for bulky plastics. Not wanting a straight shank hook. The special bend 6/0 is much smaller than a 6/0 worm hook. or 6/0 straight shank hook.

The have a small section of the shank, that is straight which might make them longer so a 5/0 might work. I know you want that hook for bulky plastics but you didn't answer my question. Is the special bend small as in wire diameter, length, or both? It will help nail down a possible solution for you but right now I think if you go with a 6/0 I'd have to say the Gami 684, LPO sells them and they might be able to get you a sample hook in order to understand the size before you buy them. dchance
thanks smalljaw. The special bend is small in length and gap. wire diameter is good. I will look into the hools you mentioned for sure. Not sold on the special bend hook, just a hook I thought would be a good option. Found I would like it to be bigger. dchance
The Gama 684 is the same as the Mustad Special bend. Mustad's version is less expensive.
