CDawson85
Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has purchased lead from LPO recently and had issues with their melter clogging and a lot of slag. I use Frankfort arsenal fluxing compound each time I add new lead to the pot. I have fluxed my pot four times today and scraped off nearly 2lbs of slag out of the 4lbs I added today. I was able to pour roughly 30 jigs before the spout kept clogging to the point I couldn’t get a complete pour any more. I used a bent out hook try and clean it out but it basically just drips. Also, the lead has a rainbow type colored hue to it after I flux it. Typically it turns a shiny silver. I have always purchased my lead from them and never had this kind of issue. If anyone has some advice I would really appreciate it, this is super frustrating. Thanks Chad
LimpNoodle
The rainbow color is actually a good sign. Lead will develop that color as it oxidizes. I'd suggest trying Rotometals. Edited March 26, 2018 by LimpNoodle
caster
Chad sounds like a you may have a mix of other metals like Zinc mixed in . Does it try to stick to a pouring ladle, if this is the case you need to pour your metal out and start over. Also make sure you are up to pouring temp . We have soft lead for sale in 1 lb ingots for $1.50 and it is very clean. I will be glad to send you a sample Edited March 26, 2018 by caster

They don't make their own lead so if they got a bad batch, they need to know as well.

I actually noticed that when I got my last batch of lead from them. I thought it was weird that it stuck to the spoon I was using. It sucks I’ll have to throw away 15lbs of it. Can I ask what you charge for shipping that’s a really good price per ingot.
