spbubba
I have been tying jigs on a hand me down vise for a year now. It is not great at holding 3/0 and larger jig hooks and does not rotate. I would like to upgrade to a rotating model to tie bass jigs from size 1 fine wire to 5/0 heavy wire hooks. Most of The information I came up with searching the forum was several years old. Please help out with recommendations in the $100 ballpark.
BLT
Check Amazon for an Anvil Apex rotating vise. Can gt them around $90 some times, up to $120. That being said, do you want just a "rotating" vise, or a rotary vise. Two different creatures. True rotary will keep hook level while you turn it, a rotating does not. I get by just fine with the plain rotating. Anvil Apex clamp has 2 slots in it. One for small hooks, one for large hooks. I had a 7/0 in it with no issues. smalljaw
Try this one...............https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/anvil-apex-adjustable-fly-tying-vise . Or this one................https://www.barlowstackle.com/Griffin-Odyssey-Spider-Vise-P2565.aspx . I use the Griffin Odyssey Spider and it is because I normally wire tie larger jigs and I don't need the vise for that. The Griffin is rated up to 4/0 but I have done 5/0 and even some 6/0 heavy wire hooks and it held fine, but if I was going to do mostly 5/0 and larger hooks then I'd go with the Anvil. I love my Griffin but like I said, if I was doing 5/0 heavy hooks all the time I'd go with the Anvil because it has a heavier hook rating. J.Bowerman
I have been tying for 10 years on a Mayfly vise I purchased online at the popular auction site. I have tied #22-24 trout hooks all the way up to 7/0 for my big hair jigs. I absolutely love the thing. 80-90 bucks online.

cadman
I use a Griffin Odyssey Spider vice as well. A really good vice for around the $100 price point.
mark poulson
I've used a 15 year old version of this vise for jigs and spinnerbaits with hooks to 5/0, and all it does is work: https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/supreme-rotating-fly-tying-vise
Saugerman
I use a Griffin Odyssey Spider also, and I love it. Smalljaw suggested it to me , a few years back.
cadman
Yep, I got the suggestion when I was looking for mine from Smalljaw as well. Yes the vice for the price point works really well.
Darkman
I use and recommend the Anvil Apex, it's no frills and hold hooks tight rotates and I have used it for 5/0 hooks. Some one said it can go 7/0, it's about $100. The other I hear good things about is the odyssey spider, it was my original choice for a vice
spbubba
Looks like I'm going with the Odyssey Spider. I need one of you guys to tell my wife to order one now. She is very excited because she never knows what to get for my birthday at the end of April. Looks like the spider will land at the end of April. FrogAddict
I also own a Griffin Odyssey Spider vice and highly recommend it. I love that it holds the smallest of trout flies all the way up to 5/0 jig hooks. just clamp it down and tie until your wife wonders what happened to you!
