cadman
What type and brand of high temp silicone do you guys use to fix or fill gaps in your Do-It molds? It has to handle many repeated pours of hot lead. Thanks in advance Edited May 15, 2018 by cadman
Apdriver
Red Rtv high temp works for me but I don’t pour the numbers you do. Permatex makes it and it is readily available at most auto parts stores.
psilvers
X2 on Permatex. I also don’t pour large numbers of jigs, but it does seem to hold up -in terms of time and exposure to heat. Pete
smalljaw
Yep, go to the auto parts store and get the Permatex High Temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. https://www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/gasket-makers/permatex-high-temp-red-rtv-silicone-gasket/ I use it on my Midwest Finesse jig mold, specifically in the hook eye part of the cavities. I have poured about 1200 1/16oz jig heads so far and it is still holding up, in fact I have all the cavities done with it and it works well and so far is lasting. The last thing is the temp range, it says it is good to 650 degrees but I pour at 725 with harder lead and like I said, no issues at all and I've used my mold hard. LimpNoodle
I only use RTV if I want the mold modified permanently. It's a pain to remove. If I want it modified temporarily I use this stuff. https://www.rotometals.com/casting-retainer-putty-1-pound/
