Shmang
Came across some old scissors I had stashed away in a drawer a long while back. They need some sharpening bug time and I was wondering what you all do to keep yours precise? I thought of taking them to the fabric store to see if the owner might be a source of help. Any other suggestions? Thanks and take care
woodsac
There's actually lots of ways to sharpen them, but the easiest I have found is a hand held sharpener. I bought one at walmart for like $10. You place it on the counter, hold it with one hand and just run one blade at a time through it until it's sharp. It's got 2 angled diamond stones inside. deadlystreamer
Hello Shmang, Keeping scissors sharp. That can be a chore because if it don't cut, It ant no good in our business. Woodsac has a pretty good idea about the 10.00 sharpeners at Wal-Mart. They work pretty well. Anything with a diamond stone will sharpen even the smallest pair of scissors as long as it's set with the right angle. A few years ago I was at a sporting goods show and I saw something called Edgemaker Pro. They have a web site, but no pictures. www.edgemakerpro.com The one I bought cost about 20.00 I think it was. Since then a friend of mine who works at GM found that en element out of one of those great big lights they use in the plants are made of diamond and are 5" long, make the greatest little sharpener for small scissors. If you know of anyone working in a big plant that uses the great big lights, see if you can get the element out of it when they burn out and get junked. I suppose it would be easier to go to Wal-Mart and spend 10.00. Good luck to you. George
Mylures
Too bad postage is so high. I have a sharpening shop and would gladly do them for you but by the time you pay the postage you may as well buy a new scissors. Yes those diamond sharpeners work pretty good. The angle isn't critical. The steeper you make it the sharper it gets but will dull that much sooner. I would probably do about 15 degrees. for what you are using them for. Celticav
If I may suggest an alternative... any knife shop in the mall around here will sharpen about anything for $2, they keep my camping tomahawk sharp as a razor as well as our kitchen knives, I bet its the same where your at. I like the edge they put on and I don't like sharpening my serrated blades... come to think of it I have two pair of serrated siccors that will need a touch up sooner or later... one more item on the list for the next time. I would take them to Ken if he lived closer
