Elf
I made one for my basstackle 7 inch ribbon tail mold out of a sheet of tin and it works pretty good. I only did this one shot so far and the tails shorted on me but I think I can fix that by oiling the plate before I shoot it.
Cole's Customs
I did this with a piece of tin foil as well, works decently for me but I'm sure tin works better.
Elf
I had less than desirable results using foil and the tin sheet was cheap, $9.99 at Hobby Lobby but mine was dented so I got it for $4.99. The results were far better with the tin plate. Making the plate is ridiculously easy, all you really need are some tin snips and a marker.
Driftwood
You can also pick up aluminum flashing at lows or home depot. Real cheap and easy to work with.
Les Young
Yep flashing is what i'm going to go with too.
Cole's Customs
I've been meaning to upgrade from foil for a while, just never remember to get flashing while I'm out of the house.
Elf
I could make a ridiculous number of plates from an 8 ft section of 4x6 roof flashing. I'd rather have the real thing when available but this works when it isn't.
rynesgto
can you show a pic of how the tin sits in the mold? I have thought of doing this several times, but wasnt sure how to go about injecting it to only one side.

With this type of "plate" it sits between the two mold halves when you clamp them together. You end up shooting both sides, then take one half and the plate out, and shoot again. Gimme a couple minutes, I'll take a pic or two anyway.

Elf
They didn't post in order...heh... The first one shows the plate out of the mold, it doesn't need to be pretty, it just needs to separate the two mold halves. The second one shows the plate inside the injection port and you can see how it divides the mold. The last one should be self explanatory. Apdriver
Nicely made Lam Plate. Two thumbs up on that one.

rdhammah
most of my molds are POP molds so there are a lot of waves and irregularities. Sounds like tin foil would be my best option. gotta give it a try
