Big Splash
Yes, I've been making a cast lead 'spoon' this season. It's like a cross between a swim jig ang a surf caster's tin squid, or an overgrown ice jig. It has a #6/0 single hook molded in, or you can make it with a loop to install a trebble, like a shad slab. Or use a split ring to add a bucktail tied on a single hook and you have a wiggly two-piece lure ( sometimes even I think a fish is chasing the spoon when I see this one working). Cast in lead it weighs about 1 1/2 oz., but I would like to get some tin to cast a lighter weight model with completely different action. I've been using (casting) this one in open water, but some of my friends say it's gonna account for some Lake Trout this winter, jiging through the ice. It can be fast trolled as well.
