IslandBass
I was just wondering if any one uses this to coat their lures. I have been using Dev Con 2 Ton with great results and I am quite pleased. I bought mix wax's polycrylic clear gloss (water based version) to refinish the dining room table (one of the project's on the Mrs' to do list) and I have a lot left over and it sure would be a waste to have it just sitting there on the shelf. I vaguely recall some here using Min Wax here with satisfactory results. I hope I have the right version. Thanks! --IslandBass
Lure--Prof
I frequently use it as a sealer for lures other than balsa, but its durability and depth as a topcoat is simply not in the same league as the epoxies...it wouldn't be too much different from using a clear acrylic like Krylon for a clearcoat. bladesandbaits
I wouldn't if I were you, spar urithane maybe but it will turn yellow after a while,I know it needs to be used but I would use it on something else.
Mmoore
IslandBass, I have used that stuff for sealer prior to painting, and as a top coat for foil/mylar. It does a decent job of filling in grain marks. It would not be tough enough for a final top coat...the epoxies are far better.
kellure
I tried it a few yrs back. Its not very durable & it yellows in time. I dont think its built to handle the outside conditions that a lure goes thru, hot, cold, wet, dry, rocks, wood, etc...
boatnik13
Someone asked about this befor at one time! I've used it > the question is " What do you want from it"? Its not a protector from dents or scratches that your going to use it for(FISHING) and it shimmers and thats a poor attractant! and as others say > It yellows. This is NOT a clearcoat by all means. It belongs in your house!. NO I'm just kidding about your house joke! but its no good for lures as you asked. We all experiment and as you can see many of us have tried it and given it a "F".rating. IslandBass
Thanks to everyone. I guess that stuff will stay on the shelf until the next time I have to refinish the dining room table. I take it the "F" rating doesn't stand for 'fantastic' --IslandBass
boatnik13
Looks good on wood products around the house but go ahead and try it for the fun of it! Don't hurt to experiment.
