woodsac
Check out this thread. Senkosam
Your best bet is to look through your soft plastic or at the store and note: plastic color(s) glitter color(s) glitter size(s) plastic opacity (salt or pearl) or translucence If there are combos of the above in specific shapes and sizes, copy them. It's a personal preference, but the archives and the cookbook give the best ideas that others have used successfully. I've been sending sample worms in clear plastic with different glitter combos. alsworms
Good point Sam. That's how I got a lot of color ideas when I started doing this. Looking in the shops and thinking "this would look good with a ___ vein, or that one would be cool with ____ glitter". You can get some really awesome ideas. I was probably the only fool who would bring a notepad in the tackle shops.
GB GONE
Hey Chris...label me a fool too!!! Our local bait shop has a huge selection of Zoom products so I went there and was righting down colors, opening bags looking at the glitter...I think the store owner either thought he was going to get a huge sale OR I was crazy :!: Well, he didn't get the big sale...I tried to sell him a few things Anyways, back to the original question. If you go to Walmart you can see the top selling color/glitter combos but they aren't the best ones in my opinion. Just look at the photo gallery in the soft plastics area and search on Ebay for "hand poured" under fishing!!! You'll see some amazing work by Chris (Al's worms), BummeRBaits, BASS8BAITS and other TU guys!! Jim
alsworms
Before I started pouring, my soft plastic fishing was limited to a local company called Keeper worms and an occasional Robo Worm or two. I remember my first trip into our local tackle shop for supplies (color, glitter, cups, etc.) The owner of Keeper Worms would be in the shop once in awhile (promoting his product and such) and I ran into him that day. He was......shall I say.......uh.......not very kind to say the least. I still remember his words to this day......."You'll be back buying my worms in no time. Pouring your own is just not worth it, and don't even think about selling them, at least not around here." Man that got my goat!! I drove home that day thinking "I'll learn how to make a decent worm if it's the last thing I do.......just to spite the guy!!!" At least now I can take pleasure in knowing that if I never sell another worm, at least I won't ever have to buy one again!. Chris
GB GONE
Chris: Anybody that sees your work knows it is heads and shoulders above any baits I've seen. You are somewhere between creating art and fishing worms. Some of your stuff I might just collect instead of fish!! Keep inspiring us!!! BASS8BAITS
I agree with Jim. Alsworms are the best! I started out using robo worms, then stumbled across alsworms on ebay. I was buying all my plastics from Chris before making my own. When I quit making my own, I'm going back to Al's for my plastics.
