JUST SCRAP
Hi everyone I’m just starting out with this addictive hobby and I’m looking for some more tips when it comes to hand dipping tubes. I fish Southern California bays for spotted bay bass and they love tube baits more than anything. DaBehr
There are some really good threads on hand dipping tubes on this Forum. Search dipping tubes and cutting tails on tubes Personally, I found injecting Do-it Tube molds a LOT easier, but not everyone agrees! The dipping part is straight forward, but cutting the tails always was a problem for me. There are some great posts on cutting tails, and here are some video links: Here is a really handy tool to use: https://www.lurecraft.com/Tube-Dipping-Rod/productinfo/2X141/ note the marks on the rods to make them the same length each time. Here's a link to the Do-it tube molds: https://store.do-itmolds.com/Tube-Molds_c_291.html Warning: If you start with these be prepared to end up buying a LOT of sizes and spline configurations! It gets really addictive!!! Good luck!! Andy 1
Les Young
You can hand dip pretty easy or inject the angling a I tube molds & cut tails by hand. I made a beefed up press sort of like lurecraft sales & attached the deluxe tail splitter to it & cut my tails. CMC molds & things also makes a very affordable tube mold, but you have to hand cut them too. I have the angling a I 4” double dipper tube mold & it’s top notch. If I buy another it will either be from angling a I or from Bob at cnc molds & things.

The types of tubes that work great out here luckily don’t need to be cut traditionally.I attached a picture of Them below. The issue I’ve been having is the tubes becoming extremely lumpy. thabks again!

Les Young
I definitely understand the financial part as most of us do because we've sunk a lot of money into this hobby. The shoot & slice tube mold Bob has at cnc molds & stuff is $99.00 & the angling ai molds aren't much higher. Depending on outer wall size wanted you can round off the ends on some 1/4, 5/16 or 3/8" bolts & dip them. Bohon who use to be a member here, but sadly passed away was a tube dipping wizard & made L brackets out of coat hanger wire for his dipping rods & dipped them horizontally instead of vertically to keep from having to use so much plastic. If you know someone that if you yourself don't you could have them drill out the ends of your bolts & insert & braze the coat hanger wires inside the holes to be able to do the same thing. You would be extremely cheap at making them like Bohon was too.

You could just do a single dip for thickness, but if you had a dual injector you could laminate them to get the results like in the picture. I have a 4 ounce ukranian dual injector i don't use since i bought my basstackle twinjector i'd sale you cheap or trade for other molds etc. to be able to do the laminates with.
