GB GONE
My parents just bought land next to Lake Chatuge in NC and I'm going to be doing a lot more smallmouth fishing. Anybody care to share their favorite colors and baits for smallies. I've already seen some of the crayfish colors there so they will be on the top of my list.... Jim PS Isn't life good when your parents own land on lakes in WI, FL and now near one in NC!!! Once we get everything fixed up that way, anybody in the area is welcome to join me fishing!!!! Especially if you know the lake !!!
BigZ
watermelon copper flakesmoke w/ blue and or purple flake. backward green weenie (green on top) pumpkinseed w/ small red & green flake Those are the colors I catch em on in the creeks and rivers here, not much lake smallie stuff around. I try to keep the baits nearly transparent for the smallies, use very little colorant. They are SPOOKY at times.
alsworms
I like anything green and/or brown and under 3 inches for our river smallies. Small dropshot worms, tubes, and dinky spinnerbaits mainly. Avocado and Pumpkin is a really nice combo here for plastics.
vishezfish
Jim, The 4 inch fat bait I sent you should do well!! I sent some to someone in NY and they told me they were catching alot of smallies on them,,, The color was watermellon/red flake... Hopefully they will catch them for you! nova
The same colors over here work as well (greens and browns) but we use 5 and 6" baits more than 3 and 4". Smokes work very well too. I make a natural worm color, called blue worm, that works very well at times. I guess a smallie is a smallie everywhere, lol.
alsworms
Good point Nova. Guess I forgot to mention that the biggest Smallie I've caught out of our river is about 2 pounds. Anything over a pound is a good smallie here. Now our largemouth........that's another story. They can get BIG here. Seen lots of 10's and 12's, but so far my personal best is around 8 lbs. Chris
