Smallmouth favorite colors and plastic baits...???

Recommended Posts

My parents just bought land next to Lake Chatuge in NC and I'm going to be doing a lot more smallmouth fishing. Anybody care to share their favorite colors and baits for smallies.

I've already seen some of the crayfish colors there so they will be on the top of my list....

Jim

PS Isn't life good when your parents own land on lakes in WI, FL and now near one in NC!!! Once we get everything fixed up that way, anybody in the area is welcome to join me fishing!!!! Especially if you know the lake B) !!!

  • watermelon copper flake

smoke w/ blue and or purple flake.

backward green weenie (green on top)

pumpkinseed w/ small red & green flake

Those are the colors I catch em on in the creeks and rivers here, not much lake smallie stuff around. I try to keep the baits nearly transparent for the smallies, use very little colorant. They are SPOOKY at times.

Good point Nova. Guess I forgot to mention that the biggest Smallie I've caught out of our river is about 2 pounds.

Anything over a pound is a good smallie here.

Now our largemouth........that's another story. They can get BIG here. Seen lots of 10's and 12's, but so far my personal best is around 8 lbs.
