mark poulson
I have some older hollow belly frogs that have become harder over the years. I've heard that I can boil them to make the rubber softer. How long should I boil them, and do I need to remove the hooks first?
Vodkaman
I found the video below. Basically, bring to the boil, remove heat, and allow to cool in the water gradually. If this is not sufficient, the video goes on to explain a chemical solution to the problem. Dave

That is a great video, and a big help. My frogs are still relatively soft, so I'll just do the boiling water deal for now, and see how that goes. Vodkaman
It is an engineering process of work hardening, similar to that of metals. The solution is not the heat, which loosens everything up, but the very gradual cooling process. Dave

It's been too hot to work in the garage, too, so I still haven't done my moving ballast testing. I went out into it this morning, but could only manage one project before it became uncomfortable for me. It sucks getting older, but, it beats the alternative, so far. Vodkaman
Don't be putting pressure on yourself. You ask a question, we give an answer, that is it, done and dusted. Come back later with a result one way or the other. No time constraints. We all win in the long run Dave
