johnnytheboy Posted November 20, 2004 Report Share Posted November 20, 2004 Hi There, clear coat seems to be topical at the moment???? anyway i was wondering i have seen some shop bought lures where the clear coat is right up over the cup washers and round about the screw eyes, it looks like they have been clear coated with them in, has anyone tryed this out??? is it best just to clear coat the lures before putting the screw eyes in or do you guys think this might work as well?? i think i'm gonna go down the environtex route as opposed to devcon, due to me being able to get it easy and at a not so bad price, is it imperative that i have a mechanism for turning the lures for it to dry, or can i get away without it, i do want to get something knocked together but a shortage of green backs is preventing it at the moment tightlines john Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Coley Posted November 20, 2004 Report Share Posted November 20, 2004 I would think the screws are epoxied in when they are put in. Clearcoating in around and over the screws adds more protection to keep water out. You cannot get by without a dryer using Etex as it takes a long time to set. But, you can get by without a dryer using Devcon because it set in about 20-30 minutes and you can turn the bait by hand for that period of time. Depending on who's brand of hardware> some eye screws and hooks will become rusted from the finsh loss alone. Turning a eye screw tight may cause it to hair line crack the finish and hooks are always getting banged-up. Clearcoat for added protection and add every season. johnnytheboy Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Share Posted November 22, 2004 cheers guys it looks like some sort of motor might be en-route at a price i can afford (free) in the shape of a base that rotates xmas trees for shop window displays, just shows that she does listen when i'm ranting on about lure making anyway its mains operated and variable speed, it remains to be seen if it will be ok, however its a start in the right direction, the lure in the hardbait photos i posted has the eyes epoxied in but no etex or devcon topcoat i might just experiment with that will keep you guys posted Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
