fishing_marshall
Out of my first 8 baits only 2 work good. The rest don't float right or when they dive they come up to the top and spin. I cut them out of basswood with a bandsaw , file them , and then sand them. Any suggestions? I'm getting frustrated. :
boatnik13
I take it that you don't know how to balance the lures! Without saying anything about brands of products . I couuld tell you the steps just to see if your missing something. Alot of steps! Mark at boatnik13@aol.com

It took me about 20 lures and month of building to figure it out. If I would have paid closer attention to what the experts on this board told me I would gotten there sooner. I still don't have all the answers but I have a better understanding and it is not as frustrating.
Mmoore
You didn't mention adding any weight. Do a search here for "weight" or ballast. My guess is you need some lead added to the belly of your baits. GL
LaPala
Post a pic & tell us your construction. Don't have a clue as to where to start to tell you what went wrong... too many possiblities.
Skeeter
More than likely the problem is that you are not using enough weight in the lure. It is also important that the lip is square and the body is straight. Do any of these problems fit? Skeeter
fishing_marshall
I started putting weight in the ones that didn't work before and now they work. Also got my first homemade one painted and finished. It works. Not the greatest paint job , but i'm just learning.
Lincoya
Don't worry about your paint jobs at this point. That will improve with time. None of us had perfect paint jobs when we started and most of us, I believe, still screw up paint jobs from time-to-time. Besides, I have caught fish on lures with no paint at all during testing phases.
