Jgraves
Just curious if anyone out there has had success with hot stamping with foil to lure blanks. Shelts sells a 110 jerk bait that has the foil stamped on it ( https://www.sheltfishingtackle.com/holographic-110-jerkbaits-p-99.html ). I would like to do that same technique to other plastic blanks. I have bought some supplies from https://backwateroutfitting.com/product/hot-stamping-foil-tape/ to try my had at it. haven't had great success. doesn't seem to stick in the grooves of the blanks pattern. I tried to use white spray paint to fill in the grooves which helped a little but its still patchy. not getting the pad hot enough? I heard around 250 degrees F. Will bring home a temp gun to mess around with different temps. What's a good base to stamp the lure on? Spray paint? what can a guy use that heats the pad up well without buying a hot stamping machine? Thanks
azsouth
Depends on the money you want to spend. Actual hot stamp machines with exact patterns for each bait are known to be the best way to set foil properly but most $$. I have done some foil with good and not so good results The other less money option is high temp silicone pads heated to cradle different baits. the other option is foil glue but does work well only on flat surface. Jgraves
thanks for the input! I bought small chunks of high temp silicone pads from backwater outfitters as well. what would be a good way to form the pad so it cradles the bait better? I looked at the foil glue but didn't spark any interest.
azsouth
the deal is to know at what temperature the baits/foil can take....normal pvc baits get really pliable about 300 deg f but it depends on exact mixture.
