chachybaby
Hi all Having difficulty maintaining the synthetic fur while tying. A pile pulls off after I'm done tying. I'm tying on small 1/8 oz jigs. Length of fur is about inch. Using dansville 210 denier flymaster + thread. Probably my technique but does anyone have solution to this? Certain technique or method to follow? Is it normal or just me. Thanks in advance
toadfrog
You have to in a way stack that stuff like buck tail. Cut a hunk off . Hold it by the longest tips . Pluck out the short fuzzy stuff mixed in where you cut it loose. That is what causes a lot of the problem . It won't let you cinch down on the filaments the way you need to. chachybaby
Thanks tf I'll try that. Could it be too that I'm putting to much on at once?
mark poulson
Adding a drop of runny super glue over the threads will lock in any loose filaments. It penetrates.

That depends on a couple things. Do you have a collar or no collar. Collars make it harder to evenly spread the fibers. That can lead to difficulty. No collar is going to need a grip laid down the shank to help hold fibers. That is where you wrap thread down and back to the head. Leaving a knurled look before adding fiber. As far as quantity sort of a rule I use is cut a piece about as big as a pencil is around . Puck the short crap out . Lay it up and add to or take away to achieve the flare or look I want.

lwc1960
Try some thinned Dave's Flexament. Do as the above comments suggest regarding the short fluff, make 2 or 3 wraps, add a drop of the flexamnet and finish the wrap. This stuff stays flexible and holds very well with any fiber I've ever tied with, natural or synthetic.
Fatman
After you cut use an old comb and brush out the fuzzy fibers at the cut, I also to this on natural furs.
