I am a part-time taxidermist who loves to chase walleyes and I would like to paint up some blade baits. I ordered some unpainted blades and was wondering what I should use for a primer so the paint will stick to the blade. The weight head is lead and the main body is brass. I bought 3/8 and 1/2 oz. baits. I read to scuff the brass with steel wool and then prime the blade. Just wondering if I should use a self etching primer and is it compatible with the lead??? or is there a different primer to use??? mark poulson Posted January 2, 2021 Report Share Posted January 2, 2021 I use Rustoleum Self Etching Primer. It will not come off, once is on, and your paint will stick to it.
