Big Ray
Hi guys I haven't posted in a long time. I was wondering what was the best floating additive?
Anglinarcher
What do you want it to do, or not do? Several years ago I added Alumilite Microballons to Plastisol. It clouds is, turning it white if enough is added. It stiffens it, so you need to add a lot of softener. BUT.... it works to some extent. Plastic floats, or sinks, due to the density. Adding an additive must change the density so that means adding a lighter weight material that does not change the overall chemical and physical proterties. Some commercial floating worms I got in the 80's were full of air bubbles, weak worms but awesome baits. Keep in mind that any additive must be inert, make the plastic less dense, and not create results you can not live with.
Big Ray
Anglinarcher I want to make floating trout worms. I want them to float with a hook in them like a Berkley Mice tail.
Frank
Use this product. It is white and will change colors a lot but it works. Also use a dry fly hook. Really light hook. When using this stuff if you think you have added enough add more. https://www.ispikeit.com/product/772/flotation-beads-4009
Big Ray
Thank you Frank. I am going to order some of that stuff. I was going to use a really small owner mosquito hook when I rig it up.
Anglinarcher
Frank's product will work. It is similar to Alumilite Microbeads. But, if all you are using is an Owner mosquito hook, or a dry fly hook, you don't need to add anything. Plastisol is near neutral buoyancy, but not quite. It will float on it's own if the hook is small enough relative to the plastic.
Frank
Yes he does I know what he want in a trout worm. A high floating trout worm can be used many ways. Barely floating is not what is needed.
Big Ray
Frank does know what I want. I am sure he knows how we fish for trout out here in California so he knows what I am going for.
