DoubleT
I have been powder painting jig heads and curing them in the oven afterwards. I would like to paint on the eyes. The trouble that I am having is when I paint on the white I can almost immediately see it turn an off color. I figure it is some sort of reaction between it and the powder paint. I am using Component Systems powder paint and the vinyl lure and jig paint. Have any of you folks experienced this and is there a way to prevent it from happening? Thanks for the input. jigmeister
I would suggest trying a different type of paint for the eyes . Only jig heads I paint eyes on are swim jigs . I have been using enamel in a 1/2 pt can from wally world and have had no issues . I only use yellow paint with a black dot in the center though . Norwegian
I have used porcelain paint over powder cot then clear powder coat over that again. Also available as markers Just let it dry well before heating it for clear coat or it might make bubbles.
cadman
If you are using vinyl lure and jig paint from CSI, it is lacquer based and yes it will discolor a powder painted jig. If I remember correctly, the lacquer thinner in the vinyl paint softens the powder paint and the powder paint starts to bleed through. Use an acrylic or water based paint, and then clear coat the area around the eye afterwords. There are also markers that can be used and maker pens, however I believe some of those are lacquer based as well......Good Luck.
