GB GONE
What ever happened to giving a guy his due : Its called the flapjack lizard...sorry BigZ.. Oh well, for anybody who has one of these molds, you know how hard it was to pour those legs the first few times..I had thought of another name: the *&%$ lizard Jim
alsworms
Bummer Z....... That is ONE cool design. I hate seeing that, unless of course Z gave him permission.
BigZ
it's just a Zlizard.. That's my 2 cents.
charkins
How ridiculous to call a great bait flapjack. An insult if I ever heard one. Cal
bump
Don't know if anyone noticed but he changed the name to "Z" Lizard. He must have heard you guys talking about him. Chris
redg8r
nothing personal & this is just me, but if someone buys a publicly available mold & pour thier own baits from, shouldnt they be able to call it whatever they want? I'm sure its a great design Z but that would seem a pretty common occourance. maybe the seller is a TU member
BigZ
I emailed the guy and he fixed it. He was very polite. It would be a real pain in the ass to TM and copyright every mold federally the old fashioned way, but electronic copyright (and internet publishing) take care of most of that when the CAD file is created (This at least covers us milled mold guys). Maybe I'll just quit designing public molds if it comes down to having everything embroiled in some stupid legal battle.
GB GONE
Can I get an "AMEN"!!! Jim
redg8r
no, no, heres what I meant to convey: I agree you should retain full rights for the mold design, Im talking about if I buy your mold, take my favorite brand of plastic, add my own special color mix, secret scent & glitter ratio,..... I would be expected to call that bait whatever you named it? If so, this kinda contradicts many of our feelings towards the senko-type bait. sure many luremakers pour thier own senko-type worms & give it thier own unique name, its still a senko-type bait. not to stir trouble, rather than to help us understand, as Im sure all your patrons would like to know. BTW, that seller is a TU member.
woodsac
I didn't say anything cause I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea. But I feel the same way as Jerry. It's no different then all those molds that LC sells that most of us started on. We buy the mold, then we rename the bait that we produce with it. I understand what you're saying though. I 'stumbled' across someone that had copied one of my baits. I saw it and said, 'hey, I didn't pour that'! It's frustrating when you devote your time to coming up with a quality design. But, I have just accepted the fact that someone, somewhere is going to copy my baits But, I also think that is the beauty of this trade. If you can make my baits nicer then me, then you deserve it :!:
charkins
I just crawled under a rock and pulled it over me. Gator's got a point. But, I do think he should have picked a better name for a dynamite bait. Thats just my opinion. I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings. It was never my intention. nova
Here's a for instance for you all. If you look in LC's catalog, you will find a 3 1/2" zipper grub. I designed that about 6 years ago and got Dave to make several molds for me. The next thing I know it's in his catalog. So, I'm in Canada and he's in the States; what can I do? I just let it go. Now I take the time to make my own molds and go about my own business. Mark it up to experience. I also have to add that I don't hold a grudge against LC. I still buy my colors and glitter from them and they give me good service.
woodsac
I just wanted to add that a couple weeks ago, there were some TU members praising this same person for the great molds they make. Well, those molds are copies of original baits and the baits that come out of them will be re-named copies.
GB GONE
Didn't mean to stir up the pot!! Imitation IS the greatest form of flattery!!! Jim
cflbasser
Why not just embed a small logo or name into the mold when you are designing it. For instance a small Z etched in the back of the lizard would not detract from the bait at all. Even if someone buys your publicly available mold, every bait produced will always have an indicator to show that it came from your mold, no matter what someone decides to call it when they sell the bait. This may also discourage someone from claiming it as their own.
Delw
I have to agree with red on this one, You buy a mold that someone calls something, your making that bait why not name it what you want. And not to mention what someone else said most baits are copies from commercial baits so we do call every senko look alike a senko? azbass
Marshmanic.com outsourced some of his baits to us to pour and L-C would'nt even sell us the molds until Marsh approved the sale. Because of that , we do not pour this particular bait for anyone but Marshmanic.com.
