WidowMaker
I need to start pouring some 3/4 oz. tube jigs with HEAVY HOOKS. They will be primarily used for striper fishing. I am looking at the following two Do It Brand molds: The Do It TUBE-G Tube Jig. The 3/4 oz cavity in this mold calls for a #4/0 hook in the 570 hook style. Will this molds 3/4 oz cavity accept the #630 hook style? If so what sizes will it accept? The Do It JIS-5-A Pop Eye Jig. The 3/4 oz cavity calls for a #5/0 hook and the 1 oz cavity calls for a #6/0 hook. This mold specifies the 630 hook style. Will the Pop Eye Jig work as a tube jig? The mass of this jig appears to be distributed in such an elongated manner that it could possibly work as a tube jig. Provided they are larger diameter tubes. Does anyone have any samples of the 3/4 oz and 1 oz popeye Jig?
Pickerel Pete
WidowMaker: I can send you 3/4 and 1oz. Popeye with 5/0 #630 Seagaurd Hooks if you want to try them. jigmaster
I would think that it would work. I do not have the mold, but looking at it tells me that it probably would do the job. Not sure why do-it would not produce a tapered tube mold up to 3/4 oz.....seems like there is a market for tapered heads that heavy. I do have the egg mold that was mentioned earlier........that would do the trick, too. It is more elliptical than the popeye appears to be........not sure how that would affect the fall of the tube. siebler_custom_baits
the popeye might work. The big deal is the diameter of the inside of the tube you use.
Pickerel Pete
WidowMaker: Got some on the way. Sorry the mail is so slow this time of year. You should have them shortly. I have used 1/4 & 3/8 oz. in tubes before but a tight fit on some tubes. Garry.
WidowMaker
Im considering a tube bait with a fairly large inner body cavity. I have used the Lucky Strike G-4 Tubes with the 3/8 oz Do -It Style TC Tube Jig which makes for a pretty tight fit. While we are at it will the Do-It Model Tube-G accept the Eagle Claw #630 hooks? What is the largest size #630 hook the 3/4 oz cavity will accomodate? Thanks for your help Pickerel Pete.....its much appreciated.
