Glass Fly failure

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I was at my favorite Calgary fly fish store this past summer, and got to talking with the owner about my glass lures, my next trip in I brung some of my lures and he wondered if I could make them small enough to fly fish. Didn't know for sure and we both were a bit worried about killing yourself on a bad cast, but what the heck. So I made a few for him to try on his annual Nov., Christmas Island fly fishing trip. He mostly fishes for Bonefish & Trevally so we came up with a blue/white/red color scheme, weighing less than 5 grams and 2 centimeter's long.

Finally had time to stop in his shop today and got the report. He didn't catch anything with 'em, nada, nunca. He liked the way they looked in the water, but they were just too heavy to fly fish. He passed them onto his buddy who was using a spinner outfit, who promptly caught some Trevally.

So, do you guys think it's possible to make a fly out of glass? I've seen some interesting glue fly's lately and thought if I could get the glass small enough it would be possible to fish'em.

What do ya think?
