chachybaby
Hi Does anyone know if the do it swingtail mold will take a regular hook? If so which one. Thanks in advance
cadman
If you are referring to not using the Mustad #91768, then yes. The hook that will fit in there is Mustad #32886 round bend or EC L3886. I believe the L32886 is slightly thinner, but not by much to make a difference. I do not believe there were any mods needed to the mold . Maybe the eyelet, but not sure as I am at work. chachybaby
I am referring to the swing tail mold which takes STW 130 wire form https://store.do-itmolds.com/Poison-Swingtail-Jigbr18-14-38-12-34-1_p_1254.html Can this mold also accommodate just a regular hook and not make a swing tail jig using the STW wire form? basskat
Never tried it but pretty sure it will not. With the form mine uses it will always swing.

Anyfish
I could be wrong, but I tried the hooks I have and none fit. To get then to fit, you would have to modify the hook eye post. The form eyes are thicker than hook eyes (or at least all the ones I have). As an alternative "form" you can use the underspin forms DO IT sells (WEY-375). This puts the true hook eye in the middle of the lead vs a swing head. That Guy Skimpy has a few videos on YouTube showing this. This setup works great for bladed jigs. Hope it helps. chachybaby
I thought maybe with some slight mods it can make both a regular jig and a swingtail jig
Anyfish
I'm sure you could. For me the underspin forms work for no swing and the regular forms for swing and I didnt have to modify anything. Neither would have a weedguard if that matters. I have the non swing mold too, which is also a nice mold. Just depends on what your after. dlaery
i was working with this mold picture, I think i have it scaled close and the yellow hook is a mustad 32886-4/0 it looks like it might work with some modifications. I don't have the mold nor have I tried this.

chachybaby
Dink Master was any mods required to fit the hook?
Dink Master
No - Just a few taps on the outside (hook eye area) of the mold (both sides) while the hook is in place with a heavy Mallet. You do this, just to get a seal (closed all the way) on the mold.
action
Whats up with the bait keeper? wrapped with thread and glued? Thanks
Anyfish
I'm glad others commented on this. Looks like I need to expand my hook selection. As far as the thread wrapped hook keepers, it looks like it. I have done this many times and it works well. No different that adding stinger hooks on a fly.

Thanks Yes wrapped with thread and epoxy. The ruff wrap helps keep the bait in place.
