NJFishRGuy Posted December 31, 2004 Report Share Posted December 31, 2004 I've used M-F and Del-Mart colors when pouring sticks, and it seems that I need a lot more of one than the other. For example, to make black in a 50% salt stick (assuming the ratio applies to the plastic amount and not the final total), I used 16 drops of M-F black. Yesterday I used a little less salt and used Del-Mart black, but had to add 60 drops. It seems to me that different manufacturers have different color concentrations. Is this accurate? Also, I keep reading about Lure Craft colors, and they seem to be the most popular here, but they are also the colors most complained about. I've read posts about the colors fading, or changing when exposed to air, etc. So why are they the most popular? Bottom line; whose colors would you recommend using? siebler_custom_baits Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 MF might have a red. Also ive noticed with Del's black the plastic hates it. I drop it in and it acts like its water based. If i add before heating its not as bad but still bubles some. Anybody else notice this or i get a bad bottle? I had red do it last night but i added too much so i think that was it. Made a sweet dark blood color though . OK to answer origonal question: I like lc colors in general and although they may have some problems they are CHEAP. Mf colors are my fav as is there plastc. I tried his motoroil, brown and nightcrawler with great results. I also mix my colors before heating, so I don't know about the hissing. Delw Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 If your having a problem with black email me. and the dates you purchased it.( this way I can track it down) We gone through quite a bit of black and havent had any problems That I am aware of. I was just pouring now and havent had any problems( actually the first time I poured in a very long time). Sounds like a water issue to me if it is hissing and popping NJFishRGuy did you mix it very well? black in one of those colors that settles pretty fast. NJFishRGuy Posted January 1, 2005 Author Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 Delw, I shook it longitudinally very hard for about 15 seconds, but I didn't add anything like a nut to the bottle to act as a stirrer. I used 3-4 other colors with no problem, but you mentioned that black was hard to mix. Would this also explain why I needed more to create a black stick? I placed the order with you on 12/16/04, and April emailed me about shipping on 12/16/04. I believe it was shipped the next day. I'll try adding something to the bottle when shaking next time. Delw Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 When making stik baits due to salt being white you will have to add lots of colorant. for example to make bluefleck your looking at 100 drops red and 75 drops blackgrape for 1 cup plastic 1/2 salt and 1/4 softener. some colors work well with not adding to much and others dont. alsworms Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 All brands of black are tricky for me. I have found it best to add black when the plastic starts to gel. Maybe I'm nuts, but it seems like black will actually "separate" in the plastic when you add it cool. The end result is a dark smoke with tiny black particles. BassnG3 Posted January 1, 2005 Report Share Posted January 1, 2005 I purchase red highlite from LC about two months ago from their catalog. The only problem I have noticed with LC black more so than any other color is you need to at least double the amount added to get a true deep black. My main use for black now is to bring out the best in the different highlite colors. Seems just a single drop added to the highlite colors works wonders.
