Ebay...how long do you wait?

Recommended Posts

Just curious what you guys think about this. I had a guy from Canada bid and win three of my baits on Ebay. It's been close to three weeks and he hasn't paid me for them yet. I have written him several times and the last time he mentioned something about Canada having a holiday but that the check "was in the mail". I want to be fair to him but at the same time I don't want to wait forever...................so my question to you guys is..................how long do I wait?

Jed:

I wait 10 days (also spell that out in the auction). After that, I offer the bidder an option to pay my fees (Ebay will reimburse you also for non-paying bidder) OR receive negative feedback.

The "checks in the mail" routine got old for me so I go with Paypal. May cost a little in fees but you do get your $$$ quick!!!

Just my 2 cents!!

Jed, add up the total 'working' days it's been since the auction end. Remember, even though the mail runs on Saturday, that's not considered a business day.

I give people (when I do sale) 15 business (Mon-Fri) days to receive payment.

Also, just remember, if you leave negative feedback for him, more then likely he'll leave it for you too :censored: E-Bay feedback retaliation sucks!

I like that policy Jim, sounds fair enough to me. I almost hate to offer them the option of paying the Ebay fees tho to not get the negative feedback as then someone else gets to deal with them. Most all of my sales go the PayPal and I hate to make it "mandatory". Thanks for the input.

Woodsac...I will count the days and see what happens...but good point.

Jed;

I hated to hear that you got stuck by one of my countrymen. Just to let everyone know we're not all like that. Like I always say; throw a stick into a crowd and you will hit an a**hole.

PM me if you like and maybe I can help from this end.

What holiday was he talking about?

You know Nova I didn't even realize I had mentioned "Canada" when I wrote it, certainly wasn't trying to suggest anything negative about our Northern neighbors......I apologize if it seemed like that.

Lunge,

Thank you for the offer but if the baits aren't paid for soon they will likely be going to several musky shows in the midwest.

Woodsac...glad you mentioned counting the days, the last bait was purchased on the 23rd and by my count it's been 11 working days...I will wait 15 (at least) as you have suggested.

Jed: I am in Canada and had a sale to CA. Dec. 10/04

He mailed Money Order Dec. 21/04 and I recieved it Jan. 7/04.

When I questioned the payment 12 days after auction closed, it sounded like he was getting upset with me when he finally replied.

Mail back and forth right now is a little slow.

Most people are pretty good just get busy as well.

Garry.

the post office returned one of my packages cause now aparently you have to fill the address label out in all caps to canada . I have had stuff take weeks to get there like 3 or 4 before . not always but not uncommon .

And about the feedback retaliation I do not leave feedback unless they do first , unless its something i bought or one of my regulars , but as a seller i wait till they do in most cases

Hi Jed;

A letter in the mail from Canada to you shouldn't take too long. Mine are all delivered in about a week. Our post offices were closed several days over the holidays though. Remember Christmas was on Sat. and we have another holiday, (Boxing Day) on the 26th (Sun.) That means the PO was closed on Mon. and Tues.- Then New Years fell on a weekend giving everyone another holiday from work on the following Monday.

On top of all that we are in the deep freeze, with -20 to -30C in my area, and arctic snowstorms south of here.

When packages come to me from the US sometimes it takes a month from the purchase date for the package to arrive. Pateince is a virtue in the North!
