muskietom51
I guys coming over from hardbaits for a change. My question is I have keel weights on a spiral shaft, what do I need to hold the weight while I wrap it with deerhair? I've tried needlenose vice grips in a vise so far but I see I'll have to move it around alot in an out of the vise. Surely theres a easier way lol. One other thing what is the best type of thread to wrap with, I've got a ton of thse things to wrap.
Big Splash
I use the chuck on a heavy duty rechargable drill. When you get practice you can even do some of the wraps with the power of the drill.
Party Crasher
I used a bent nail locked into a fly vise. Worked OK. I turned the threaded end of a brass cup-hook into the coil and clamped the cup hook into a fly vise. That was better. Then I bought a "Tube-Fly" attachment for my Renzetti fly vise. Problem solved! There are some tube-fly attachments that clamp into other vises. Check with your local fly tying shop. I tie the actual hair on with kevlar thread. You can really bear down on it without breaking it. Then I finish the head with red size D or E. Coat that with epoxy (Devcon 2-ton, or Flex-coat).
