Crane Swivels

Recommended Posts

Once upon a time, USA mfg crane swivels were adequate, being reasonably smooth spinning and strong.  At a point tho, for whatever reason, the spin quality deteriorated to unacceptable, and luckily at the time I found some China mfg nickel cranes that were as smooth or almost so as premium ball bearing swivels.  Last fall tho, I attempted to restock and unfortunately the importer current stock was gritty spinning and unacceptable.  A guy in CO also had similar quality cranes on eBay but I lost touch after he sold out his existing inventory.

The highly touted stainless steel cranes I got were possibly the worst spinning I've encountered.  McMahon prices were more than I wanted to pay + they appear to be no longer available thru Berkley.

Since TU members are knowledgeable and particular about hooks quality, thought y'all might know about quality crane swivels at reasonable prices?

I have never had good luck with crane swivels as far as spinning consistently. The only time I use them would be for  jigs that take a small Colorado blade where consistent spinning is not necessary. So what I have replaced these with are the roller swivels. They aren't that much more and I found them to be more fluid in rotation than the crane swivels. I have also tried them on spinnerbaits for the top blade and they work extremely well without any problems.  You should check them out.
