badfish03
I've started down this steep incline you guys call hand pouring (my wifes gonna kill me) I need to know what you all think on colorants tp get started. I am trying to keep my initial out lay fairly small so I dont get skinned alive so I am only alllowing myself 4 dyes and 4 glitters to start. What would be your recommendations for colors and brands for these? Keep in mind that I do 90% of my fishing in a clear to crystal clear lake. TIA Robert
Senkosam
Get your basic plastic dyes from DelW. His price is good and you get what you pay for. The same goes for M-F manufacturing. Del's plastic price is unmatched; M-F is high, but the selection good. For odd colors that neither have, go to lurecraft, but what you see in the catololg, might not be accurate. (motor oil is brownish gray, purple is grape, some colors are opaque or cloudy- not clear.)

nova
Trust me on this. Whatever you get in the first order will not be enough once you start pour. I'll give you 2 weeks and then you will be ordering at least twice the number of items you ordered the first time. We've all been down that road. There is no such thing as dipping you toes in this lake; you either jump in to your neck or stay on the dock. Good luck and have fun. Tell you wife she'll get her new car next year. I know how that goes you should see the tying equipment and supplies I have accumulated in the last 20-30 years but especially the last 10. I have always been a frugal shopper (see cheap in the dictionary) when it comes to this stuff but I've got like 15-20 rubbermaid containers full of stuff. As long as I get the stuff to trickle in I might survive the initial onslaught.

Have fun & show us some pics!! Jim Actually I got very lucky on this one, our old micro died at the end ov Novemeber the new one couldn't be collected for three weeks. So we bought a cheap one to fill in for the 3 week gap. So I have a brand new 1100 watt 1.5 cuft micro at my disposal This is the kicker for me getting started on this down hill slide. OBTW Nova she got her minivan last year so I'm okay for a year or two in that field.
nova
I have a ton of fly tying goods as well. Started when I was a lot younger, lol. I only do "Buzz" the mouse now with it. Been into photography as well. Got about 3 grand in that and it sets in the closet. Now I've got about 4 grand tied up in this. Oh well. It's all fun. Haebar
If you can only get four colors get the primary colors: Red, yellow and blue, then get black for shading. If you got one more, get white for lightening. Theoretically you should be able to come up with any color by mixing these. Be sure you get your colors all of the same type (transparent or opaque, etc.) For glitter, I'd get all medium in black, red, silver, and copper.
