Jigsisme
Getting ready to place an order this week, need your help! I want to pour Zoom type durable baits, so do I need hardner, softner, salt or anything like that with Calhouns? Also where do I get colors and fleck for a newbie? How much plastic, color, fleck, and salt do I need to last me for a couple of months of practicing?
Senkosam
The smaller the bait (grubs and small lizards) the more hardener. The longer the bait, the more softener. The more salt, the more softener. Salt is only necessary if you want to add weight to plastics like in the case of Senkos and lures that you want to nose hook. Calhoun's is pretty durable, even with softener added, so hardener may not be needed. Del has a decent selection of dyes and good prices for Calhoun's and he and Bob offer superb metal molds. Take my advice- don't waste your money on LC molds! Even making your own from plaster or *Durham's Water Putty will produce very acceptible lures (*not really putty, but dries rock hard like plaster, but it won't shrink and has superior detail) I think that once you've produced some usuable copies (start with a stick), you'll want to continue, so get a gal. of plastic, some softener, use your own table salt, colors that you can mix to make other colors, some flakes, a cheap $29 microwave from Walmart and your set to go. If you're real adventurous, get at least two small pyrex cups for laminates. Sam
