basspatch
Hi Guys, I am new here and have a question. I have searched the forums first with no luck. I dabble at making my own spinnerbaits and bought some spinnerbait blades with rattle chambers on them. They were size 4 and 5 willow leafs. Has anyone used these? Any comments? I used them with moderate success for largemouth on Kerr and Gaston but the smallmouth up at Lake Champlain this fall just tore them up. Each catch resulted in losing the back half of the rattle chamber and rattle. Once the back came off the blade was useless because it was not heavy enough to track straight. Has anyone else tried these? Thanks! Tom aka basspatch
siebler_custom_baits
think it was Kat in one of the last swaps that sent these. I liked them a lot til my buddy broke it off using it w/o my permission.
basspatch
Thanks for the reply CJ. I liked them also but the big smallies just tore them apart with all the head shaking. It is a good thing I only go to Lake Champlain once a year. Could be murder on the tackle expenses. LOL! Tom
dtrs5kprs
Familiar with the blades...should be a diamond pattern made by Lakeland. My guess is the stamping and folding of the blade weakens them. Their diamond blades are much lighter than standard blades anyway. You might try slapping some devcon or JB weld around the rattle pocket. I think I would go with some type of underskirt or blade arm rattle (like the Stan Sloan baits).
