Dual injection jerk bait bleeding

Recommended Posts

Holy Smokes those are NICE!!!  Reminds me of a color that I used to make.  Called it Purple Knight.  Don't know if it can be done in a fluke (or how it would look,) but it was basically a very light purple with small red flake and a THICK black vein.  I mean so thick that 2/3 of the bait was black.  The 2 colors just offset each other perfectly.  Looked awesome in the water too and was definitely a fish catcher!

Keep at it, brother.  Those look amazing!

Thanks! I went a little darker on the bottom than I wanted and the gunmetal glitter didn’t help lol. I was thinking of shooting the same purple top with a translucent purple or pink bottom. Thoughts?

Yup......great idea.  And yeah I would agree that even though that last one looks great, we always prefer a lighter belly.  Like you said, sometimes just a glitter will turn it.  I'd like to see how that one would look with the same back, but a clear (or a VERY light smoke) belly with either a bunch of small black flake or a touch of large black.  So many possibilities LOL!

A couple years back, I bought a bag of custom flukes from a guy on Ebay.  Bummed that I can't remember the name, but he called it Flesh something or other.  LOL.  Anyway, it was just a fleshy pink looking back with a clear belly and a bunch of micro holograph flake.  Looked to me like he added a touch of red color to the pearl to give it that natural fleshy look.  I got a pack of 25 and to this day, the most productive fluke I used.  I went back to order more and the dude had packed up and moved on.  Just my luck.......that's why you'll never see me in Vegas!!

Litterally has nothing to do with poor quality machining. The nose (ie the gate) MUST be 50/50 in the mold, which it is, and the part line is lined up as such. A proper fluke (zoom style) the belly extends deeper in the mold than the back does and has a hook slot (which is the issue at hand). The hook slot interrupts the flow of plastic and when injecting too fast causes both colours to mix more in the cavity as was seen. Hence when he slowed down with the injector he saw better results. Also why on many minnow style baits that have a larger belly cavity without a hook slot you are able to get clean laminates fairly effortlessly.

Litterally???

A machinist that can't make both mold halves the same height isn't worth a sh--. That has nothing to do with the laminate problem but I would have returned it just for the shoddy workmanship.

Man I wish I had your level of expertise in this hobby, I guess I'll stick to the production side from now on

@Jinx Keep it up, it looks like you're getting this figured out more and more.

Yes I was going for the clearer smoke look but too much black. I need to do 1 drop. Lol. And add holographic glitter. I’ll try that tomorrow. Could you take a picture of that color scheme? I’ll try to match it!

I don't see any that he currently has for sale, but I'll ask if he's got a picture :-)

Here's a sample of his Purple Knight.  I wish I had a pic of my version because the black is much more dominant, but at least you get the idea.  Very light purple with small red flake and I would double the black here.  Hope this helps!

The uneven mold condition at the top is just poor quality machining work. The mold cavities are deeper on one side than the other. Which means that the deeper cavity side needs more plastic than the other to fill. Which is why you are getting inconstant results. A blending block will inject the same amount of plastic at a time.

An asymmetrical bait cant always be laid out 50/50 between the two plates, especially if a hook-slot is involved in the design.

Jinx this is what I would call wrapping instead of bleeding. Just curious if you shot your injector push handles where they were not locked together? So you could have independent control over the amount of color pushed from each injector? Using the shim method are you getting a good bond between the colors?
