The old California Worms company

Recommended Posts

I was recently put in touch with someone that new the old owner of California Worms.  I was told he passed away a few years ago.  I am after the "smell" of the bait.  I was told it was a cherry-brine of sort of solution.  I have mixed cherry, anise, and flour salt.  It's ok, but it's not the open the bag and "Bam!" smell.  If anyone can help me out on it or EVEN if you have an old bag that still has the smell to it, let me know!  I want it.  It's like the felling of opening up a new Star Wars figure in 1980 and smelling the new degassed plastic smell..  haha..

They probably just used the strawberry Scented oils or cherry from lurecraft.com it was a popular additive to put in the plastisol when making the baits and when bagging them. They may have added smelly jelly fish attractant also but I'm not sure. That would definitely make a BAM of a smell if it was even invented back then. I too was wondering what happened to the company. Can't even find an old picture online. Of course no internet back then. The good old days.

i believe he was in Northern California at the time.  I used to buy from California Worms in the early 90's before I started pouring back in 1994.  But, I always bought his purple/blue.  Don't know if the fish loved the smell, but I caught fish.  I loved the smell too!..haha

There were 2 really good ones in that area at the time.  Probably this one and also Paradise Worms.  I believe he's been out of business for about a decade.

I can think of three in the Redding area...  Mother's Finest (Arnold Fancelli), Rainbow Worms (Barry Ng), and MGM (John Coyle).

Sure was a ton of talent in that area.  I haven't heard of the first 2, but MGM was awesome!
