jdw174
One of my favorite rods lost a butt cap, along with a small chunk of cork. The end or the blank is slightly exposed. How do you go about determining correct size for a replacement cap? Measure the diameter of thw whole handle and get a cap of the same diameter and glue in place? Mattman
Pretty tough since the rod manufacturer may have their own caps specially made. The caps I have can be bought at Cabela's. That's where I got them. I believe they are the smaller of the two sizes they carry. It's interior depth is .822" and it's interior diameter is .778. Just epoxy a new one on. Maze
Many times you can take a store bought butt cap and alter it to fit perfectly. I do this type of alteration to get a certain look many times. You can make a butt cap out of farn near anything as well, you don't have to buy a certain material or design. If you need/want one the slips over a stub of the blank, you can measure, it should be in 64th. Check with any of the large suppliers for a butt cap that you like, then, dry fit it, then epoxy and allow to set up. You are done!
