WidowMaker
I am tying Flashabou directly to the hook shank of some tube jigs. Im getting a lot of slippage. Is there anything i can use to make the Flashabou tacky enough to hold the strands together will im starting the initial wrap?
musky_man
Widowmaker, I assume you are wrapping the hook with tying thread and lacquer before you are adding the flashabou .... also, wet the flashabou with saliva or water ( I use a sponge when tying martabou to dampen my hand when I need to) .... if not, that might be your solution. VARick
I double the flash material over the thread and tie in from there. If you want lets say 4 strands in the finished product you would use 2 strands and double around the thread. Not sure where I saw/read that but seems to work fine. No slippage so far. badfish03
I have used a ton of flashabou when tying salt water flies if you are doing a small tie in area then fold it over as stated above if you have a bit more room tie it down along the shank from the bend to the head then lay it over and add a couple more wraps to secure in the position you want. Adding superglue or head cement as you wrap it down also works well. Hope this helps Robert
WidowMaker
I am wrapping the shank first but wasnt applying any type of cement during the tying process. I am also getting it started and then lapping it back just as VARick explained. I am making them with quite a few strands so they can be inserted into the tube with some of the tube tail length cut off. I usually dont have much of a problem tying marabou or hair but this stuff really tends to be slick.
