jigmeister
That's exactly what these pins are for . If you have a "weedless" jig mold but want a jig head without any weed guards you put the pins in the slots machined in the mold where the weed guards normally go and pour . This gives you the option of weedless or non-weedless jig heads from the same mold .

If you want to make a non-weedless jig from a weedless jig mold (poisontail, et.al.), you take the weedguard pin and shave it down so it is flush with the top on the mold cavity when it is put in the weedguard pin slot. You can also use the teflon pins and just cut to length.
mark poulson
If you have lead sprue cutters you can just pour the heads with no pins, and the cut small nibs off flush when you're cutting off the sprues. The fish won't care.
