overkill
Any of you spent any time there? I am thinking of using my vacation week in June and planning a low budget trip there to try my hand at a new record bass. I was thinking of camping there to keep it cheap, any suggestions? what would be the best transportation to the lake from the airport?(cheapest) Any thing else about the area? siebler_custom_baits
wow people are coming from other places to fish our little puddle. Honestly overkill if you are coming for a week or so dont just fish dixion. You should fish several of the SD lakes including jennings maybe powayu, san vicentie, and a few others. All out lakes are muddy right now but are kicking out some fish. I hear the fish at dixion are hitting dshot and such and the males are starting to move up. Like i said i wouldnt just fish dixion, its such a small lake. You may want to check out guided trip with captian bill. He does freshwater and saltwater guiding and is an awsome angler. In june the bite starts shutting off but i do well topwater on a lot of the lakes and others do well dshot. Also in june you could check out out awsome saltwater for a half day, i know ill have the yak out atleast 1 time a week fishing yellowtail and such offshore of la jolla. check out sdfish.com then go to lake information and check out all the lakes. Maybe we can hook up if you come out here. Ever wanted to kayak fish bass? i got a spare and we could do some bassin if im not in a tourny that week. Lemme know how i can help you out with your trip. woodsac
CJ pretty much nailed that one. Your chances of catching a record out of Dixon or one of the other SD lakes are good. But not if you don't trophy hunt those lakes on a regular basis! People are under the impression that they can just go down there and if they are knowledgeable anglers they are going to catch some monsters. Not true at all! Read some of the local reports. There are regulars that get skunked all the time! The guys that are catching all the 'teen' fish out of these little lakes fish them 4 or 5 days a week! And these guys are 'trophy hunters'. They don't fish for anything under 10 lbs ever, unless at another lake in a tournament. If you are traveling to CA for vacation and want to go bass fishing, I recommend 2 lakes. In southern CA, San Vicente Lake or Lake Casitas. In northern CA, Clear Lake. All of these lakes hold teen bass. But they are also known for numbers of quality bass. A lot of the SD area lakes are just little 100 acre lakes. You can fish the whole lake 3 times in a day. But without knowing the water, you're going to miss the prime spots, or spook the fish coming up to them. Right now everything is like chocolate milk, but clearing fast. Once the water returns to normal, it's not uncommon to have 20 ft visibility in some of them. So sneeking up on a fish with a 4 oz swimbait is tough! siebler_custom_baits
overkill lemme know when your coming and well have to hook up and show you some spots. SD is by far one of the hardest places to catch fish. I often will shore fish the riverbed at dusk and nail more bass than i would in an entire day on one of the lakes. You really have to know the water. Before you come lemme know and ill help you choose best baits. Oh and btw you pretty much gotta fish 6-8lb line. I fish 8lb green pline for just about everything because its light line and its green.
overkill
Thanks for fast info guys! Trust me, I am not thinking I am going to just waltz down to SoCal throw in a line and bust out a new world record! Its just that I have had a bug to try my hand at this next world record for a while-So why not buy a lottery ticket and give it a shot? I wouldn't mind trying out a few other places, but I was trying to find somewhere I could camp or stay close so I didn't have to rent a car. ( I am trying to be as frugal as possible) Also I thougt that intensly fishing a small lake like that for a week would give me a good feel for it. Sieb, I have June 5-12 off of work so thats when I figured I would go. Keep the suggestions coming!
siebler_custom_baits
if you wanna try other places dont stay at dixion its far away from other lakes. Stay at jennings then you got san v el cap within 5-10 minutes away.
LedHed
You might want to try Lake Perris also.
