steelejeep
Hi, I like to make tube baits using the dip method with rods. Can someone please direct me to information on how swim tubes are made? Hopefully that is what they are called. Basically it is a tube bait with a belly. I have tried the search function unsuccessfully. I appreciate your time. Bass-Boys
I have no Idea - But it sounds like the rod u dip with would need a wide spot in the belly area. If that makes sense?
Les Young
I agree with Bass-Boys on the belly made onto them. . You could take bolts & weld & shape a belly on them or use jb weld to make them.
steelejeep
Thanks for the ideas. I will give them a try. Best, Jeff
steelejeep
Off to the thrift store for some butter knives. Will have to experiment regarding the Colorado blade addition to the knife. Your explanation is good...just need to visualize. Thanks, Jeff
Bass-Boys
I was thinking butter knife too,, as CNC said . I remember the swim baits. But it would be to thin I thought. But maybe if you JB welded 2 of them together.. Hmmmmm .
steelejeep
I will try some different knife shapes as well as "custom ground" metal shapes based on butter, serving knives. Thanks, Jeff
Les Young
I'd think a 1/4" or 3/8" bolt with an L shaped bracket for a handle & the belly shape welded & shaped or molded & shaped on it would well to make them by horizontal dipping them. What would really be nice was if someone like Bob at CNC would make a tube mold with belly shape on it to make them easily by injecting them. steelejeep
I have thought about horizontal dipping as well. I was thinking a "T" would give you the opportunity to make two baits at once. All these ideas will make for a fun time experimenting until something clicks. Work is going to have to be priority for the next couple of weeks. mark poulson
1 hour ago, CNC Molds N Stuff said: I forget who it was, but there used to be a de-facto expert here years ago who had put together a list of crazy dipping techniques that worked. I think he published a CD or something like that on it. I'm not crazy about dipping at all myself. Its just to slow for me. If I want tubes I make a mold with an insert and I inject them. I do slice, but that's still faster than dipping. Bob, if you're thinking of Bojon, he died a while back.
