Fat Guys Fishing Plastic

Recommended Posts

FGF has plastisol for sale advertised as Calhouns OG blend. Has anyone used this stuff and can verify?
Also, if you have, what kind of timing is the shipping?

I ordered a gallon to try out last week and it hasn’t been fulfilled yet.

I would be leery about ordering anything from a company with that name. Is it some kinda joke?

The website says; Our current lead time is approx 3 - 4 business weeks

I’m pretty sure that is referring to the molds. I got a response that it either shipped today or will tomorrow.

Calhouns is good stuff if it's the same stuff baitjunkys use to sale. Baitplastics was suppose to have  reverse engineered the calhouns to make theirs. They may have but their are differences between the two. I've been buying from baitplastics ever since baitjunkys quit selling plastic. Lureworks is another great plastic too.

I haven’t tried lureworks. Do you know if their hard or saltwater formula heats up well in the microwave? IE no scorching or micro bubbles.

They're buying it directly from Calhoun so I would assume it is theirs. The "OG Blend" part is is referring to a tweak they (Calhoun) made to the compound that resulted in an undesirable outcome, so they reverted back to the original formula.

This applies to their molds because they make them on an as ordered basis. The name may seem funny but from videos I’ve seen of their operation I’m led to believe the name refers to the owners physical stature. Man I hated to be the one to say that.
While I can’t speak to their plastic their molds and accessories are top notch.  Don’t let the name fool you.

Do you know if this is the only place to buy this stuff? I used to get plastic from Calhouns plastic (a guy Jeff ) and when they changed formula it fukt everything up and he stopped selling. Until now seeing it on FGF, this is the first I’m hearing of it in about 2 years.

First impressions are lasting. I can't overcome the name and the bold face 3-4 business weeks lead time statement on the website. I can't imagine anyone would be happy with that wait time this day in age.

I'm not aware of other resellers. You could buy bulk direct from Calhouns.

I've never had a problem with their plastic at all. You can get degassed. You can call them & ask pretty much anything you want or you can look for any post by McLuvin on here & shoot him a message too.

Then take your marbles and go play somewhere else if all you're going to do is complain about them.

I'm not 100% up to date with this stuff. Fat Guys would be a solid place to get it though.

I believe Jeff stopped because of that and they jacked his pricing up on him. I do know that anything Calhoun is the previous formula they've had for years. when they tweaked it everyone complained, including the production customers.

This is the only one that I'm aware of with that long of a lead time. Most good mold makers ship out in a few days.

That probably means they’re not busy. I had long lead times from Angling AI. Bass Tackle. And others. You could order a Do It Essential Series molds d still wait 10days.

My first order from FGF I was on the phone over an hour with them . Discussing the application of the bait I was making. The best plastic I should use with that mold. Etc etc. Waited about 2 weeks for my order. I recently ordered a FGF dual injector. Less than a week for delivery.

Some companies are now charging a “convenience charge”. Convenient for them I guess. I’d rather pay the extra few dollars and order quality.

Quality is always worth waiting for. That’s why I still order MF Plastisol.
But… seems this thread has gone wayyyy off topic
