camrynekai
You're missing a perfect marketing opportunity here. Since' date=' (if it's legit) someone feels threatened by your "mimic", I'd be calling mine:"Sweeter Beaver"[/quote'] When I got my Sweet Beavers I was impressed at the design...but why would they use such crap plastic? the baits are way to hard, don't have much action and half of the baits in the package were deformed (twisted appendages) To be honest.....hand pourers are going to put some damage on his income if he doesn't do some changes to the quality of the plastic being used. Rather then wasting time trying to nail hand pourers from copying the design, they should invest it in perfecting there plastic formula. I also picked up some Ozmos....neat bait and made with a heavily salted flexible plastic (much like Yamamotos). its like having 10 baits in one. Check-em out Ozmo Morphology
GB GONE
Cam: I'm with u....RI should learn a lesson and ask us hand pourers for info!! Rumor has it that one hand pourer is filling orders in the 1000's!!! Slick marketing is good (the chick on the bag rocks!!!) but what is inside the bag is what counts..they could take a page from us bait makers and continually try to make things better...but thats probably not cost effective!!! Man that Ozmo is one wicked bait...if I was a fish I'm not sure if I would eat that thing or run !!!! Jim

Senkosam
Hey, I'm already calling my lure 'sweeter beaver', though the resemblance to the original is less than the hand poured one. But no worry, I only sell to a select few. I wouldn't be too worried about this bozo. His company has produced mediocre plastics for over 10 years and I doubt any have ever been patented. This design's popularity will fade and go by the wayside of every new and improved lure made. Remember cyberflex? Walmart's been having a clearance on them for a buck a bag since Dec. GB GONE
Sweet ..Frank!! I have done a little research and even on the RI website the names are not trademarked!! I doubt they have patented anything..I wouldn't waste time with that myself...I would be out there searching for the next "great" bait design!! overkill
Just my 2 nickels, but didn't some people on this board get upset about an ebayer using someones lure name or design incorrectly? I think that as fellow baitmakers we should give the guy some respect and not copy his name. Many of you have come up with new and innovative designs and most of you have chose to share your designs and not try to profit from them. But if you had, you would be upset if someone was copying it. Guaranteed there would a post about someone ripping off your new lure.
james bradshaw
We can all say what we wan't to about copying a bait being unfair to the original designer. But we all do it and all the big companies do it as well. Look at the plastic worm didn't manns bait company start making them first? what about Bobby and Gary Garland didn't they come up with the tube jig. I think there are other companies out there that have made more money off of the tube then they have. Not to mention the Senko, Or the spinner bait etc. The list goes on forever! All I'm saying is most Ideas come from exhisting ideas. Some people just make those ideas better!
GB GONE
True, Andre made a great design and the marketing for Reaction Innovations is really great (IMHO). Thats what sells a lot of their baits!! I like making baits but my intention was never to "steal" anyones profit, name or design...I just want to pay for my 5 gallons of plastic and have some baits left over to fish with !! If you have ever bought any Sweet Beavers, you would be somewhat dissapointed with the plastic as it tears up "when a crappie swims by"...If I was RI, I would be looking to improve my bait quality rather than warning others about a so-called patent pending on the bait. Mr. Moore never even mentioned the name and on the RI website there is no mention of "patent pending" or trademarks of any kind!!! Heck their website doesn't even have a little copyright deal on it for the pictures... Senkos are the best example I can think of that get copied day in and day out, with many bait maker saying "senko-like" or senko-style" bait. I have never heard anyone getting a letter or email from Yamamoto with regards to a patent...He just keeps adding colors and other styled baits to give the angler more choices and keep the customer!!! Maybe whoever came up with the process of injecting plastic baits should pursue all these bait makers for infringing on what I'm sure was initially a patented process.... I just think we should all go settle it out on the lake !!!!! Jim
Senkosam
Jim, I agree. There are so many baits to make easy copies from that it would take one a lifetime. LC has copied just about every soft plastic made, the difference being the flat side. Even if there was no trademark or coyright on any lure that came out of his molds, I wouldnt pass one off as the original because 1. the copy would look like a copy and 2. I wouldn't lie to a customer. Every year Bass Pro has a copied lure design for sale under a different name and sales pitch. Since many companies stopped making certain years ago and didn't patent them, others reinvented the design. Like you and others have said, it doesn't take much for a large company to get molds made for one of our designs and not only would we not be offered compensation, but not even a thank you. It's kind of like the fashion industry - spies are at every show, stealing designs or getting ideas how they can improve on what's walking down the runway. GB GONE
Hey...you better watch out "senko" sam....you are infringing on a patent, trademark or copyright with that name dude!!!
