markh28
I am looking for a thin clear coat for my casting spoons. Similar to the clear coat that is on little cleos and daredevel type spoons. I am currently dipping using kbs and some dick nite that I still have, 1 coat, and it works, but it is much thicker than the aforementioned products. I also tried the aerosol spray kbs but that came out grainy and bumpy on the spoons. When you look at (and fingernail test) a little cleo or daredevel, you can't scratch it. So I know it has clearcoat on it. Just wondering what they use?
BobP
In my experience, a moisture cured urethane is the thinnest tough hard topcoat you can use on spoons. Dick Nite spoons used to sell the MCU he uses on his manufactured spoons to TU members at a discount. Don’t know if that’s still true but another MCU that is popular is KBS Diamond topcoat which is sold by many automotive parts companies online. kBS is a little thicker than Dick Nite but it’s easier to store without beginning to cure hard. You might also buy a custom thinner from KBS if you want to customize viscosity.
21xdc
KBS Diamond clear can be thinned with Xylol/Xylene. It takes up to 3 weeks to fully cure.
Arne
I painted some blade baits with acrylic. Then dipped them in clear powder paint. Don't know how thick it is for sure but didn't seen to me that it added much at all. Did not fill the line tie holes or the hook holes. Arne.
