G D Beck
Hi folks, Wondered how opinions may range on the issue of crank bait body form and shape? In Fusion 360, I can very quickly create basic 3-D body forms with scaled elipses. However, although it takes longer, spline-based shapes are a bit more appealing and generally better mimic some of the good production lures. For this mission, I am designing for very deep diving applications, pelagics off the San Diego coast and elsewhere. I initially test my lures in my hot tub, hardly anything approaching the depths of the application. And when they are in the real target waters, they are too deep to see except for the short-line thing next to the boat. I guess my sense is that keel/buoyancy balance and dive bill design are collectively probably more important than having the husky "shoulders" of a mackerel. Those of you that use F360 know what a pain it can be to get non-uniform shapes to define. In fact, all of us that use F360 should be checking our sanity on a frequent basis. That said, I like the fact that I can go back in the design history and change one or two aspects quickly once the proto-type design is done. I also like that I can do things in the lure/print design that the production lure companies cannot. Thanks for any thoughts. Attached is a pic of my current macky prototype. Garry B, San Diego and wherever else I can toss something at something.
