LakeSideMolds
I'm working on a new 4 1/2 inch worm mold that I will be machining and offering for sale on our site and wanted to get some input on suggested changes. ( see attached drawing screen shot ) The diameter of the worm body will be just a tad over 1/4" ( .28" to be exact ) In this mold I'm going to include a second port for making just the tail sections. ( good idea.... or bad? ) Thanks for any input or suggested changes.... Thanks, Kent Lakeside Molds Nisswa, MN www.lakesidemolds.com Edited March 11 by LakeSideMolds
basscatlildave
I like the idea of having a tail mold made with the main mold.
Kasilofchrisn
Yes, definetly like the included tail mold. No extra mold to buy!
C0MRAD
The tail and worm body look like they need a better connection point. A butt joint isn't a great connection, and the tail may fall off during normal use. Something protruding from the tail that the worm body can wrap around to create a mechanical connection would be much better. Otherwise, the worm looks good.
LakeSideMolds
Thanks guys... Yes, I agree Comrad on that tail connection point.... I'll do some work on that.. The outside diameter of each ring is .28" So maybe 2 or 3 rings on the tail connection that are in the .18" OD which should allow enough material to wrap around it.. Is this kind of what you had in mind? ( see pic below )
C0MRAD
Yes! That looks great.
Miamisheriff
I would buy some of those molds if the price was right.
Apdriver
That looks like it would be a great finesse worm. Thanks for sharing it with us.
LakeSideMolds
Thank You Apdriver... On that note, would you recommend me adding that word "finesse" to my description on my website listing? I was struggling a bit as far as the proper name for this worm mold. Thanks, Kent
Apdriver
It may get you more hits from search engines. Sure like the tail mold integrated in the mold. Very innovative.

C0MRAD Posted yesterday at 05:31 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 05:31 AM 5 cavity worm mold plus a 10 cavity tail mold... the price seems competitive to me.
C0MRAD Posted yesterday at 05:40 AM Report Share Posted yesterday at 05:40 AM The more I look at it, the more expensive I think that mold should be. The polished surfaces, beveled edges, and engraving make for a premium mold. Kent, may I ask what cnc mill you made that with?
LakeSideMolds Posted yesterday at 03:35 PM Author Report Share Posted yesterday at 03:35 PM Thanks for your feedback... This mold does have a lot of tight corners which results in a lot of machining time. This mold takes about 2 1/2 hours to machine and it takes 18 separate end mill tools.. so its kind of a spending process. You asked about the CNC mill I'm using. For this mold I'm using a Haas DM-2 with a 15,000 RPM spindle motor. The machine weights around 5,000 LB I've been really happy with the machine. LakeSideMolds
Hi Guys, When I started designing molds several years ago I use to design them with what I thought they should look like, and I quickly found out that it's best to ask the people that actually use them. otherwise I found myself spending all that time on design only to later make a bunch of changes to the mold that should have been there from the start. That was my intentions here. The great suggestion that Comrad made for the tail connection got implemented into the final design. I probably should not have put the link in the post, but I wanted to avoid going through the whole process of folks direct messaging me because I don't keep up on checking these as often as I should. I attempted to edit the post on Sunday to remove the link, but it won't let me remove the link, so I deleted that section of the post and the pictures of the finished mold. Thanks, Kent Edited 10 hours ago by LakeSideMolds

Look at the Bloodline swimbait mold a 2 cavity with included bloodline is more expensive. As is the 10 cavity Ice Preybait with included tail mold. I know as I own both of those. Both from different manufacturers and both at a higher price point. Yet cheaper than 2 molds sold separately.
